Choosing your life, and the fear frequency.
Did you choose your life, or was it chosen for you? And a scientific reason behind (some of) our fears.
Did you choose your life?
Or was it chosen for you?
Look around you. Look at the things around. Did you choose any of them?
Did you choose the chair you're sitting at, or was it just there?
Did you choose the house you live in? The bed you sleep at? Or was it already there?
How about the furniture, or the decorations in you house?
And the clothes you wear? Did you really choose them or did someone else decide for you?
How about your job? Do you actually like what you do, or did you end up doing it because of life's circumstances? Are you working towards getting a job of your own choice?
Your routines, your habits, your beliefs. Did you plan any of them, or did you accept what life handed to you?
Many of the things we want are out of reach at the moment, so we gotta make due with what we have. Yet we often forget that these things were supposed to be temporary. Stepping stones on our way to get what we actually want.
So many things were chosen for us, and have been so for so long, we don't bother questioning them anymore. Whether it's to avoid conflict with others, or the fear of making the wrong choice, we end up not choosing at all. Instead, we accept whatever's handed to us.
And oftentimes, that's life. We can't live in the house of our dreams, because we have to settle for whatever we can afford. But even then, we do have a choice. Do you choose to live in this particular part of town, in that city, or even that country? You can still find somewhere else, or redecorate your current one to your liking.
Some things are inconsequential, like choosing this set of plates, or that chair over this one. But some of them will completely determine the quality of your life, like the work that you do or the people you spend it with. We all have bills to pay and we must make money, but somewhere out there might be the right job for you. Don't just accept the one you have, but keep your eyes open for a better one.
We must learn to accept things as they are, without giving up hope that they can be better.
Constantly ask yourself if the people you surround yourself with bring a positive energy to your life. Do you feel recharged after meeting them? Do you feel drained? Do you feel you can be yourself around them, or hide parts of you? Can you count on them in a time of need, or do you feel they'll judge you?
When faced with a choice, many people opt for the most agreeable or convenient option. Then, they focus on convincing themselves it was the right decision.
Make sure you don't fall into this trap.
Make sure you choose your own life.
Curious things I learned about:
Have you heard about the “fear frequency”? You can read more about it here:
Here’s the TLDR version:
In the 1980s there was a lab that designed medical equipment. Everybody said it was haunted. People would report anxiety, depression, and the feeling of being watched.
One day, Vic Tandy set his fencing sword on the table, and noticed it was moving slowly on its own. then faster and faster. Upon looking closer, he saw it vibrating, so he decided to investigate. He found a new extractor fan near the laboratory. It was sending a low-frequency sound wave of 18.9 hertz, which was making his sword vibrate.
These low-frequency is below what the human ear can hear. They're called infrasounds, the opposite of ultrasound. Intrigued, he began his investigation. He found that a "haunted" 14th century cellar was emitting a 19 hertz infrasound from a fountain.
Since then, 19 hertz has been known as "the ghost frequency". Their paper suggests that if the human eye was to vibrate at this frequency, it can cause a serious smearing of vision. It can be mistaken for seeing a ghost.
You can't hear this infrasound frequency, but it can go through buildings and walls. It's something you feel in the body. While some people seem to be more sensitive to it than others, most people report feeling a general presence in the room. A general unpleasant feeling in the body. Some reported nausea as well.
It gets more interesting when you realize what these frequencies can do. It'll make metal vibrate, candles flicker, and all sorts of ghost-related phenomena.
Such frequencies were also detected a the beginning of a tiger's roar. Making it's prey get paralysed with fear before they attack.
Some scientists have hypothesised that humans evolved this response, to avoid cave-ins. Caves with frail structures after a quake might have these low frequencies of vibration. Our brains could detect them, and interpret them as something to fear so we avoid going in. These microvibrations are also found in old structures, such as 14th century cellars, old factories and dark labs.
The context is very important, too. Feeling a breeze in the back of your neck, in an abandoned cellar, will have you looking for a ghost. The same feeling, in an office building in the middle of the day, will have you looking for an open window. Organ pipes, that emit these very same frequencies in a cathedral, will make you a feel awe and grandeur. The same feelings you want to provoke so people feel closer to God in a holy place.
All in all, this doesn't explain all ghost sighting or paranormal activities. Certainly not the only reason we feel fear. But maybe there’s a biological reason behind some of our fears. Maybe there's certain machines in your home emitting infrasound in your eyeballs, or sending shivers down your spine.
